The posting

Part-Time Sales Associate

Pay: $15.00 per hour Schedule: Part-time hours. Start times and scheduled hours may vary based on business needs, employee call-offs, production schedules, and holiday coverage.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE HISTORY HERE…

As a Part-Time Sales Associate, you will help create an outstanding shopping experience while supporting the day-to-day operation of the retail store. You will build relationships with customers, recommend Pepperidge Farm products, maintain attractive and well-stocked merchandise displays, and contribute to sales growth.

You will also help keep the store running efficiently by supporting cash handling, inventory, receiving, opening and closing procedures, and store cleanliness. In management’s absence, you will help ensure established store procedures are followed.

Build the Business

  • Develop a strong working knowledge of store products and product-handling procedures.
  • Use suggestive selling with customers, including offering the Behind-the-Counter Special.
  • Engage customers in conversation and recommend Pepperidge Farm products based on their needs.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and with attention to detail.
  • Support efforts to increase net sales, bakery sales, and average sales per transaction.

Deliver Excellent Customer Service

  • Follow established customer service processes.
  • Provide friendly, helpful, and attentive service to every customer.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and follow the established dress code.

Maintain Merchandising Excellence

  • Follow merchandising standards to ensure products are properly placed, organized, and easy for customers to shop.
  • Ensure merchandise is accurately marked and priced according to the Red-Black-Blue pricing strategy.
  • Receive, rotate, stock, and organize product shipments, which may include unloading deliveries.
  • Properly receive and process distributor returns.
  • Rotate products to support freshness and inventory standards.

Support Store Operations

  • Protect Company assets by following established security, loss prevention, cash-handling, recordkeeping, key, lock, and store-securing procedures.
  • Operate the cash register and follow established cash-handling procedures.
  • Perform store opening and closing procedures, including bank deposit drops and pickups as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the sales floor, stockroom, and restroom areas.
  • Help ensure the store operates efficiently and effectively when management is not present.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH…

You will work closely with store management and fellow store team members to provide excellent customer service, maintain merchandising standards, and support daily store operations. You will also interact directly with customers, delivery personnel, and distributors as part of your regular responsibilities.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE… (MUST HAVE)

  • General education degree or currently working toward completion.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using standard units of measure.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to provide friendly and professional customer service in a retail environment.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with reasonable accommodations as applicable.

This role may include

  • Standing and walking for extended periods, potentially more than 8 hours per day depending on the schedule.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and squatting.
  • Occasional balancing, climbing, and kneeling.
  • Receiving, sorting, rotating, and stocking bread and other product deliveries.
  • Lifting and carrying products weighing approximately 10 to 50 pounds, depending on product type.
  • Pushing or pulling merchandise and equipment weighing up to approximately 200 pounds for short distances.
  • Working approximately 95% indoors and 5% outdoors.
  • Exposure to cold conditions when working in freezer areas, where applicable.
  • Driving on a variable basis when required by assigned duties.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE… (NICE TO HAVE)

  • Previous retail, sales, cashier, merchandising, grocery, or customer service experience.
  • Experience with suggestive selling or recommending products to customers.
  • Experience operating a cash register or following cash-handling procedures.
  • Experience receiving, stocking, rotating, or merchandising retail products.
  • A track record of delivering friendly, dependable customer service in a fast-paced environment.

What I changed: I organized the original content into the required Make History sections, consolidated duplicate responsibilities, corrected grammar and wording, and made the qualifications easier for applicants to scan. I also kept the physical requirements job-related rather than turning them into candidate-screening language, and treated prior retail experience as a nice-to-have because the source description does not explicitly require it.
