A few years carrying a number in this kind of role
Proven seller, AE: the pay open postings state
Roughly $12,150–$30,850 a month before tax. Type an offer's base and variable above to see where it lands.
The band rests on 795 distinct pay figures stated on open AE postings at 92 companies, 2026-10-30. Postings state either a base salary or an OTE, as each employer chooses, and the band holds both as stated. The pay at your attainment is a straight line: a plan with accelerators pays more past 100%, and one with a threshold or a cap pays less, so check the plan's rate table.

Each band is typical pay (from the 25th percentile of the midpoints of posted ranges (each counted as yearly pay, a rate per hour at 2,080 hours) to the 90th percentile of their top ends), taken from open postings wherever enough of them name a figure. A posting that names only a ceiling (“up to $X”) stays out, because a cap is not what anyone in the seat is paid.
Where the comparison comes from
For each kind of sales role we take the pay figure every open posting states, as a year’s pay, and compute its typical pay, from the 25th percentile of the midpoints of posted ranges (each counted as yearly pay, a rate per hour at 2,080 hours) to the 90th percentile of their top ends, with the median between. That is the band the role’s own list on the job board shows. A seller who is early in sales is compared with the lower half of it, a proven seller with the whole band, and a senior or strategic seller with the upper half. Nothing is stretched past the figures postings actually state.
Two things stay out because they would inflate the band: postings that give only a ceiling (“up to $X”), and pay that is not attached to an open posting. Where too few postings of a kind name a figure, the band is marked as not measured rather than guessed. Your offer’s pay at attainment is base plus variable times attainment, a straight line that a real plan’s accelerators, thresholds and caps bend. The methodology and the live pay tables go further.

Sales pay questions
What does OTE mean in a sales offer?
On-target earnings: the base salary plus the variable pay (commission and bonus) the plan pays when you finish exactly at 100% of quota. Across the board, sales postings state $139k–$346k/yr a year as typical pay, read from the open postings. The variable part is earned deal by deal, not promised, which is why the calculator asks for your attainment. The OTE guide takes the figure apart.
How does quota attainment change what I take home?
Base arrives every payday whatever you sell; variable moves with the number. On a $150,000 OTE split 50/50, a year at 80% of quota pays $75,000 base plus $60,000 variable, $135,000 in all. Plans with accelerators pay a higher rate on every dollar past 100%, and plans with a threshold pay nothing until you clear it, so read the plan's rate table before trusting the straight-line figure.
Is the pay on the board base salary or OTE?
Whatever each posting states. Some employers publish the base salary, others publish OTE for commissioned seats, and a few give both; the board reads each figure as written and puts it on a yearly scale. A base-only figure leaves the variable out, so that seat pays more at quota than its number shows. When a posting is unclear, ask the recruiter which of the two it means.
Which sales roles pay the most right now?
On today's open postings, Sales Leadership states the highest typical pay for a proven seller, $177k–$447k/yr, and Sales Development (SDR & BDR) the lowest, $57.8k–$150k/yr. The table above ranks every kind of sales role at whichever level you pick.
What should I ask before accepting a sales offer?
The split between base and variable, how quota is set and how often it moves, what share of the team reached it last year, whether commission is capped, when it is paid out, how long the ramp runs and whether a draw covers it, and what happens to commission on a deal that closes after you leave.
