Know the tells
Six tells of a fake sales offer
You pay to start
Ramp training, a certification, a starter kit, inventory, leads and the laptop are costs the employer carries. Any of them billed to you, by card, gift card, Zelle or crypto, ends the conversation.
A check you are told to deposit
Money arrives for equipment or a vendor, you send part of it on, and days later the check bounces with your own money gone. The same play hides behind sales assistant and reshipping jobs.
An interview with no voice
Selling is spoken work, and so is hiring for it: a recruiter call, the hiring manager, often a role-play. A process held entirely in Telegram, WhatsApp or chat text is the fraud's tell.
Commission called a salary
Genuine postings separate base from variable and say what OTE assumes. A salary that only arrives when you sell, or six figures promised for an entry seat, is commission-only work in disguise.
Your income comes from recruits
When the pitch is about a downline, a bonus for every person you sign up or being your own boss, the product is the recruiting. That is multi-level marketing, not a sales job.
Personal details before paper
A Social Security number, ID scans, bank logins or a verification code belong after a written offer, in the employer's HR system. Requested in a chat first, they are what the scam is after.
A genuine sales interview is a conversation you can hear: the recruiter screen, the hiring manager, often a mock call or a pitch. To walk in ready, our sales interview practice runs the discovery call, the objection round and the quota questions, with feedback on every answer.

The domains each company runs, and the applicant tracking board its openings are read from on this site. A link or sender missing here does not prove fraud on its own, but it is not that company either.

Questions about fake sales offers
How do I know a sales recruiter is real?
Check three things. The sender: an in-house recruiter writes from the company's domain, its applicant tracking system or a LinkedIn profile you can trace. The role: it should sit on the company's own careers page with the same title and location. The process: real sales hiring talks to you by phone or video before anyone makes an offer. Paste the message above and we test its links and senders against that employer's real domains and job board.
Can a sales interview happen over Telegram or WhatsApp?
A recruiter may text to find a time, but the interview itself is a conversation: a team hiring someone to talk to customers wants to hear how they talk. An interview held entirely in chat, followed by a same-day offer, is exactly how the fake recruiter scheme runs. Find the role on the company's careers site and apply there.
Do real sales jobs make you pay for training or a starter kit?
No. The employer pays for ramp training, the laptop, the CRM and the rest of the sales stack. A few seats need a license (insurance, securities, real estate), and those exam and course fees go to the licensing body or the course provider, sometimes covered by the employer. They are never sent to a recruiter through a chat.
Is a commission-only sales job a scam?
Not on its own: some sales seats pay straight commission and say so. The scam is calling it a salary, a big yearly figure that turns out to hang on every deal you close, with no base in the contract. A genuine posting splits pay into base and variable and names the OTE, what both add up to at 100% of quota. The sales salary calculator shows what a given split pays at your attainment.
What happens to the text I paste?
Nothing is kept. Our rules go over it in memory and an AI model reads it a single time for its verdict; after that the text is gone, and all we record is a tally of verdicts. The privacy policy covers this tool.
Who should I tell about a fake recruiter?
Tell the company being impersonated through the contact or careers page on its own site, and report the account to the service it used (LinkedIn, Telegram, WhatsApp or the email provider). In the US, file a report with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, and if money moved, with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
