How to hire for revenue operations: scope and level, pay from analyst to head, and a data exercise

Revenue operations (RevOps) runs the system the sales team sells inside: the CRM and its data, territories and quotas, forecasting, compensation plans and the reports leadership decides from. A first RevOps hire often changes how the whole sales team works, so the level matters: an analyst, a manager, an enablement lead and a head of revenue operations are different hires at very different prices. On this board, US revenue operations and enablement postings state a median of $159,004 a year, from $107,675 for analysts to $225,000 for directors and heads, and 61% ask for sales or go-to-market operations experience. This guide turns those figures into a hiring plan.
The figures come from the 1,007 open revenue operations and enablement roles open to US candidates on this board on 2 November 2026, read from 1,480 employers' own hiring systems, and from the posting dates those systems state. Pay is the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale, base or on-target earnings as the posting states it, one per posting after repeats of the same title at the same company are merged. Right now, across every country, the board's open revenue operations and enablement roles post a median of $158k/yr, with a typical band of $120k/yr to $275k/yr, across 1,773 open roles.

1. Decide the scope and the level
Write down what the person will own before choosing a title:
- Systems: the CRM and the sales tools around it, their data and their administration.
- Planning: territories, quotas, capacity and compensation plans.
- Insight: forecasting, pipeline reporting and the analysis behind decisions.
- Enablement: onboarding and training sellers, playbooks and content, which some companies give a separate enablement role.
A company with one RevOps person usually needs a generalist manager who can build; a larger team adds analysts beneath and a head above. The revenue operations job description guide has a template.
2. Price it against the market
| US revenue operations seat | Open roles | Median posted pay | Middle half |
|---|---|---|---|
| Every revenue operations and enablement role | 1,007 | $159,004 | $120,000 to $197,425 |
| Titled analyst | 140 | $107,675 | $83,348 to $122,500 |
| Titled manager | 257 | $155,000 | $135,000 to $181,900 |
| Titled enablement | 238 | $162,900 | $130,000 to $200,000 |
| Titled director, head or vice president | 123 | $225,000 | $193,738 to $258,475 |
Most RevOps pay is salary, sometimes with a company or team bonus. Revenue operations salary breaks the pay down further.
3. The profile and what to verify
What US revenue operations postings lead with, from the 261 whose leading requirement lines the board read:
| Requirement leading the posting | Share |
|---|---|
| A number of years of experience | 87% |
| Sales, revenue or go-to-market operations experience | 61% |
| Salesforce or another CRM | 42% |
| Analytics, SQL, reporting or BI tools | 35% |
| Software or SaaS | 28% |
| Sales tools and systems administration | 26% |
| Territories, quotas, capacity or compensation planning | 13% |
Postings that name years mostly ask for four to eight (66% of them). Verify the work rather than the tool list:
- A system they built or rebuilt: a CRM cleanup, a territory model or a forecast, what was wrong before, and what changed after.
- Analysis: give them a small pipeline data set and ask what they see and what they would do about it.
- Working with sales: how they got sellers to adopt a process they did not want, and how they handled a compensation plan dispute.
4. The interview loop
- A screen: the systems and teams they supported, and pay expectations against your range.
- A data exercise: a sample of anonymised pipeline or bookings data and a short readout of what it shows and what to fix.
- A system design conversation: how they would set up territories, stages and the forecast for your team.
- Conversations with a sales leader and a seller, the people whose work the system shapes.
5. How long the seat stays open
The board sees how long open roles have been posted, not when a hire is made. On 1 November 2026 the median open US revenue operations role had been posted 31 days earlier, and 28% more than 60 days earlier (sales compensation benchmarks).
6. How these figures were counted
- The roles: every open revenue operations and enablement role on this board on 2 November 2026 that a US candidate could take, read from each company's own careers system and checked every hour: 1,007 roles. The requirements come from the 261 whose leading requirement lines were read from the posting.
- The pay: the midpoint of each posting's own range, base or on-target pay as the posting states it, on a full year's scale, one per posting after repeats of the same title at the same company are merged. Levels come from the title.
- The days since posting: from the posting date each careers system states, to 1 November 2026.
- What the board does not see: time to fill, offers and the pay finally agreed.
