Partner and channel manager job description: what partner managers do, what postings ask for and the pay
Written by Yuma Heymans, Founder & CEO of SalesJobs.Now.

A partner manager (also titled channel manager, alliances manager or partner sales manager) sells through other companies: resellers, consultancies, systems integrators, cloud marketplaces and technology partners whose customers can buy the product. They recruit and enable those partners, build joint plans and work deals with them, and are measured on the revenue partners source or influence. This guide describes the job as real postings describe it: what partner managers do, what postings ask for, what the seat pays, and a job description a hiring team can adapt.
On 2 November 2026 this board had 970 open partner and channel sales roles open to US candidates, with a median posted pay of $180,000 a year; 177 of them had requirement lines read from the posting itself, the sample for the requirements below. Pay figures are the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale (base or on-target earnings, as the posting states it), one per posting after repeats of the same title at the same company are merged. The partner and channel sales jobs page lists every open seat.

1. What a partner manager does
- Recruits partners. Finds the resellers, consultancies and technology companies whose customers fit, and signs them up.
- Enables them. Trains partner sellers and engineers, shares materials and pricing, and sets up how deals are registered and paid.
- Plans jointly. Builds a business plan with each major partner: target accounts, campaigns, events and the revenue goal.
- Works deals together. Brings partners into the company's deals and the company into theirs, and settles who owns what.
- Is measured on partner revenue. Revenue partners source (bring in) or influence (help close), against a quota.
Partner managers sit in the sales organization beside account executives; the guide Partner and channel sales salary breaks the pay down by industry and company.
2. What postings ask for
The share of the 177 US partner and channel postings whose leading requirement lines name each:
| Requirement | Share of postings |
|---|---|
| A number of years of experience | 84% |
| Partnership, channel or alliance experience | 84% |
| A record against quota or partner revenue | 33% |
| Enterprise customers or complex deals | 31% |
| Software or SaaS | 21% |
| Travel | 20% |
| A degree | 18% |
| Technical knowledge (cloud, security, APIs) | 16% |
| Systems integrators or consultancies | 10% |
| Resellers, distributors or managed service providers | 8% |
| Cloud marketplaces (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) | 8% |
Partner postings are among the most specific on the board: almost every one asks for experience with partners, and a third for a revenue record to go with it.
3. How many years postings ask for
| Years named | Share of postings that name years |
|---|---|
| Two to three | 12% |
| Four to five | 28% |
| Six to eight | 32% |
| Nine or more | 28% |
The median is seven years, and none of the postings that name years ask for one year or less: partner management is usually a seat for experienced sellers.
4. What the seat pays
| Measure, US partner and channel sales roles | Figure |
|---|---|
| Median posted pay | $180,000 |
| Middle half of postings | $135,000 to $225,000 |
| Posted as remote | 30% (288 of 970) |
5. A job description to adapt
A posting that names the kind of partner, the goal and how it is counted attracts partner managers who have done that work. A starting point:
Partner Manager, [partner type: resellers, systems integrators, cloud marketplaces or technology partners]
The role. You will build and grow our partnerships with [partner names or types] in [region], with a goal of [partner-sourced and partner-influenced revenue].
What you will do. Recruit and sign new partners; train their sellers and engineers; build joint business plans; bring partners into our deals and register theirs; report partner pipeline in [CRM].
What we ask for. [N] years managing [partner type] for a [product category] company, with partner revenue results you can show.
Pay. Base [range], on-target earnings [range], variable paid on [sourced, influenced or total partner revenue] against [quota].
Fifteen US jurisdictions require a pay range in the posting itself; the guide Which sales jobs show their pay lists them.
The guide How to hire a partner or channel manager covers the rest of the hire: defining the channel, pricing the seat, what to verify and an interview loop.
6. How these figures were counted
- The roles: every open partner and channel sales role on this board on 2 November 2026 open to US candidates, read from each company's own careers system and checked every hour: 970 roles.
- The requirements: the leading requirement lines read from 177 of those postings (about three lines each); a requirement counts when a line names it.
- The pay: the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale, one per posting after repeats of the same title at the same company are merged, and the median across the US postings. "Up to" figures are left out.
