Vertex runs a separate field team for each of its four franchises: cystic fibrosis, where center account managers cover the CF centers and hospitals across a multi-state territory; JOURNAVX, its NaV1.8 inhibitor for acute pain; Casgevy gene therapy, placed through authorized treatment centers; and kidney disease, where reps call on nephrologists and specialty kidney clinics. The pain launch is the biggest push, 8 of its 16 sales openings: territory business managers working community physicians, territory account managers who each own 15 to 20 hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers, three regional field sales leaders (South Florida, Wisconsin to northern Illinois, Kentucky to Ohio), and a floating regional account manager in Oregon or Washington who fills vacant territories for 10 to 12 weeks at a time.
