A US customer success job posting on this board typically pays $141,500 a year, and a posting titled customer success manager $130,000. The middle half of customer success postings run from $114,700 to $180,000, a narrower spread than for any closing seat, because most of the pay is salary. This guide breaks customer success pay down by title, product, city and company, and explains what the bonus is usually paid on.
On 1 November 2026 this board had 1,027 open customer success roles that US candidates could take, and 734 of them (71%) stated their pay. Every figure below is the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale, and the median across the postings in each group. Right now the board's customer success roles post a median of $143k/yr, with a typical band of $113k/yr to $252k/yr, across 1,960 open roles in every country.

1. The short answer
| Measure, US customer success roles, 1 Nov 2026 | Posted pay per year |
|---|---|
| Median, every customer success role | $141,500 |
| Median, customer success manager titles | $130,000 |
| Middle half of postings | $114,700 to $180,000 |
| Bottom tenth below | $89,500 |
| Top tenth above | $220,000 |
| At an AI company (median) | $196,800 |
Customer success sits between the selling seats and support. A customer success manager (CSM) owns the relationship with a set of customers after the sale: getting them to use the product, running business reviews, spotting accounts at risk and passing growth opportunities to account managers or account executives. Where the CSM also owns the renewal or the expansion number, the seat starts to look like account management and pays more; the guide Account manager salary covers that seat.
2. Pay by title
| Title family | US roles posting pay | Median posted pay |
|---|---|---|
| Director, head or VP of customer success | 64 | $220,000 |
| Technical account manager | 73 | $145,000 |
| Enterprise customer success manager | 101 | $162,500 |
| Senior customer success manager | 139 | $146,750 |
| Customer success manager | 326 | $130,000 |
| Customer success associate or specialist | 31 | $75,000 |
Technical account managers are counted with customer success on this board: they look after a customer's technical setup and escalations at infrastructure and security companies, and post $15,000 more than a CSM at the median. Enterprise CSMs, who own a few large accounts, post $32,500 more than the title alone. Associate and specialist seats are the usual way in, often from support or sales development.
3. Pay by what the company sells
AI companies post their customer success teams about $45,000 more than any other market at the median, the widest gap after sales leadership; many of their seats are technical ones, working with a customer's engineers. Business software (SaaS) companies post the most customer success roles (220 US roles posting pay that day), and companies selling software for one industry post the least.
4. Pay by city, and remote seats
Among US customer success roles posting pay, by the metro the posting names:
| Metro | Roles posting pay | Median posted pay |
|---|---|---|
| San Francisco Bay Area | 143 | $175,050 |
| New York | 170 | $149,250 |
| Chicago | 44 | $133,900 |
| Boston | 41 | $126,000 |
Remote and office customer success roles pay almost the same: $140,000 at the median for the 197 remote US roles posting pay and $142,500 for the rest. Customer success is one of the most remote-friendly kinds of sales seat, since most of the work happens on video calls. Seattle has the highest share of customer success seats of any city on the board, about one in eight of its sales roles; the Seattle sales jobs page lists them.
5. The companies that post the highest pay
The employers whose US customer success postings had the highest median pay on 1 November 2026, among those with at least eight roles posting pay:
| Company | Roles posting pay | Median posted pay |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | 11 | $232,500 |
| Databricks | 15 | $213,750 |
| Salesforce | 14 | $188,900 |
| Ramp | 8 | $163,250 |
| Neara | 12 | $160,000 |
| Harvey | 10 | $153,750 |
| Veeva | 10 | $130,000 |
| Braze | 12 | $127,800 |
The companies posting the most customer success roles with pay were Connecteam (18, median $105,000), Wolters Kluwer (15, $55,000, mostly associate and specialist seats) and Databricks (15). Every company page lists its open sales roles with their pay.
6. How customer success is paid
Most customer success pay is salary. Where there is a variable part, it is usually a smaller bonus than a seller's commission, paid on some mix of gross revenue retention (how much of last year's revenue renews), net revenue retention (renewals plus growth, minus losses), product adoption, and customer health or satisfaction scores. Seats that own the renewal outright, or a share of expansion revenue, are paid more like account managers, with a larger commission and a higher on-target figure.
The question that decides a CSM's pay is therefore what number you own. A seat measured on adoption and satisfaction pays a steady salary with a small bonus; a seat measured on renewals and expansion pays more when the book grows, and less when customers leave for reasons you cannot control. The guide What is OTE explains how commission and bonus plans are built for every sales seat.
7. How to judge an offer
- Ask what you are measured on. Adoption and health scores, renewals, expansion, or a mix, and whether the bonus is paid quarterly or annually.
- Ask how many accounts you own and how much revenue. Fifty small accounts and five large ones are different jobs at the same title.
- Ask who owns the renewal and the upsell. If an account manager does, ask how your work is credited.
- Compare with the right group. $130,000 is the median for a CSM title; for an enterprise CSM or a technical account manager at an AI or infrastructure company it is well below the group.
- Ask about the path. Many CSMs move into account management, sales or customer success leadership; directors post $220,000 at the median.
8. How these figures were counted
- The roles: every open customer success role on this board on 1 November 2026 that a US candidate could take, read from each company's own careers system and checked every hour: 1,027 roles, 734 of them stating pay. Customer success managers, technical account managers, customer success associates and their leaders count here. One employer whose roles in this group were mostly consulting and analyst jobs, and one whose postings state a monthly figure the board read as a yearly one, are left out.
- The pay: the midpoint of each posting's own range, base or OTE as the posting states it, on a full year's scale, and the median across the roles in each group. A group is shown when at least 30 roles in it post pay; a company when at least eight do.
- Products come from what the employer sells, titles from the title's own words, and cities from the posted location, the same rules the board's market and city pages use.
These figures describe one day; the board's pages always show the current pay.
