Remote sales jobs: which seats and companies hire remotely, what they pay and what remote means

About one in four sales jobs open to US candidates on this board can be done remotely, and remote sales roles post more pay, not less: a median of $155,000 a year against $140,000 for roles tied to an office or a territory. Which seats and which companies go remote is far from even, though. This guide shows which kinds of sales work are most often remote, which products and companies hire remote sellers, what remote seats pay, and what "remote" usually means in a sales posting.
On the evening of 1 November 2026, 4,632 of the 20,527 open sales roles that US candidates could take on this board (23%) said they could be done remotely, and 3,418 of those stated their pay. Every figure below is the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale, and the median across the postings in each group. The remote sales jobs page lists every open remote seat right now, split by kind of work.

1. The short answer
| Measure, US sales roles, 1 Nov 2026 | Remote | Office or territory |
|---|---|---|
| Open roles | 4,632 | 15,895 |
| Median posted pay | $155,000 | $140,000 |
| Middle half of remote postings | $117,900 to $207,500 |
Remote sales work is mostly closing, technical and customer work at software, security and AI companies. Sales development seats, the usual first job, are the least often remote, and field selling at device, industrial and consumer goods companies is rarely remote at all.
2. Which seats are most often remote
| Kind of seat | Remote US roles | Share remote | Remote median | Office median |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sales engineering | 609 | 32% | $187,500 | $187,000 |
| Partner and channel sales | 308 | 28% | $172,500 | $170,750 |
| Customer success | 276 | 26% | $140,000 | $143,500 |
| Sales leadership | 533 | 24% | $197,500 | $187,500 |
| Revenue operations | 249 | 23% | $154,900 | $162,800 |
| Account executive | 2,085 | 21% | $147,900 | $115,000 |
| Account management | 405 | 19% | $121,800 | $140,000 |
| Sales development (SDR, BDR) | 143 | 13% | $68,500 | $77,900 |
Account executive seats are the largest group of remote roles by far, and the remote ones post about $33,000 more than the office ones, because remote AE seats sit mostly at software companies while office and territory AE seats include many distributor and field roles. Sales development is the exception the other way: only 13% of SDR and BDR seats are remote, and those pay less, since most companies keep new reps near a manager while they learn. Sales engineers post the same pay remote or not.
3. Which products and companies hire remote sellers
Share of each product's open US sales roles posted as remote, among products with at least 300 roles:
Security companies post the highest share of remote sales seats (43%), and software, cloud and AI companies close to a third. Consumer goods, industrial and device makers, whose sellers visit stores, job sites and hospitals, post the fewest.
The companies with the most open remote US sales roles that day were Viatris (123), Fiserv (98), Samsara (93), Halter (60), Zscaler (54), ServiceNow (48), Datadog (38), Allstate (38), Medtronic (32) and Motorola Solutions (28). Several of them, the drug and device makers in particular, mark field territories as remote: the rep works from home and drives to customers in the territory.
4. What remote sales jobs pay
The highest median posted pay among companies with at least eight remote US roles posting pay: Veeam ($405,900), LangChain ($350,000), Horizon3.ai ($325,000), Sierra ($321,250), Cohere ($301,250), Glean ($297,500), Vanta ($291,500) and Garner Health ($287,500). These are mostly on-target figures for enterprise closing seats at AI, security and software companies.
Many companies set a remote seat's range by the region or the cost of labor where you live; a posting that names several pay ranges by location is showing exactly that. The guides Tech sales salary and Account executive salary break pay down further.
5. What "remote" means in a sales posting
- Remote within a country or a region. Almost every remote sales posting limits where you may live: the United States, a time zone, or a set of states. Pay range laws apply by where you work, so a remote US posting often states a range.
- Remote with a territory. A remote account executive covering the Southeast or a named list of accounts may need to live in that region and travel to customers several times a quarter.
- Field remote. Drug, device and equipment reps work from home and spend most days with customers in their territory; postings mark these remote though the work is in person.
- Fully remote. Software sales seats that sell by video, with occasional travel to the company's offices for training and kickoffs.
Read the location line and the travel line together before applying.
6. How to land a remote sales job
- Show you can sell without a room. Remote sales seats are mostly filled by people with a closing or technical record; numbers from a previous video-based sales seat count most. The guide Sales resume shows how to lead with them.
- Start in an office if you need to. Sales development seats are rarely remote; many sellers do their first year in an office and move to a remote closing seat after their first promotion.
- Target the products that hire remotely. Security, software, cloud and AI companies post the most remote seats; the cybersecurity, SaaS and AI pages list theirs.
- Prepare for a video interview loop. Expect a recorded or live role play over video; Sales interview questions covers it.
7. How these figures were counted
- The roles: every open sales role on this board on the evening of 1 November 2026 that a US candidate could take, read from each company's own careers system and checked every hour: 20,527 roles, 4,632 of them posted as remote. A role counts as remote when its posting says it can be done remotely.
- The pay: the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale, and the median across the roles in each group. Products come from what each employer sells. One employer whose postings state a monthly figure the board read as a yearly one is left out.
These figures describe one day; the remote sales jobs page always shows the current seats.
