The best cities for tech sales jobs, by the number of open seats, are San Francisco and New York, each with about 1,700 open tech sales roles on this board, followed by London with 1,315. San Francisco also posts the highest pay, a median of $200,000 a year for tech sales seats, ahead of Seattle ($190,000), Washington DC ($182,000) and New York ($177,000). Cities differ in the seats they hire for too: Dublin is a hub for sales development reps serving Europe, Bengaluru for sales engineers, and Washington DC for account executives selling to government. This guide ranks 21 cities and says what each is good for.

On 2 November 2026 this board had 20,304 open sales roles at tech companies (software, AI, cloud, cybersecurity and fintech), and the counts below are those whose posted location names each city. Pay is the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale (base or on-target earnings, as the posting states it), one per posting after repeats of the same title at the same company are merged, and the median across the city's postings. Most postings outside the US and Canada state no pay, so those cities have counts but no pay figure. The tech sales jobs page lists every open seat.

2. Cities outside the US

London is the largest tech sales market outside the US by a wide margin, and the city where many American software companies base their European sales teams. Apart from Toronto (19%), fewer than one posting in fifty in these cities states pay, so ask for the base and the on-target earnings at the first conversation.

3. What each city hires for

The guide How to get into tech sales covers the first seats, and Tech sales salary the pay by seat across the board.

4. Remote instead of a city

On the same day the board had 4,956 open remote tech sales roles, more than any single city; the remote tech sales jobs page lists them with the countries each hires in. Remote seats are most common in cybersecurity and industry software; the guide Best industries for sales jobs compares the share remote in each industry.

5. How these figures were counted

  • The roles: every open sales role on this board on 2 November 2026 at a company whose field is AI and data, cloud and developer tools, cybersecurity, business software, industry software or fintech, whose posted location names the city or its metro area, read from each company's own careers system and checked every hour.
  • The pay: the midpoint of each posting's own range on a full year's scale, one per posting after repeats of the same title at the same company are merged, and the median across the city's postings; cities where few postings state pay show none. "Up to" figures are left out.
  • The seats: the kind of sales work each posting is filed under (account executive, sales development, sales engineering and the rest).

These figures describe one day; each city's tech sales page always shows the current roles and pay.
