Job seekers never pay to use this board. An Apply button opens the employer's own application page, or the page of the recruiting firm filling the seat; only where a company or its recruiting firm pays us for a hire who came from here does that link carry our referral code, and the fee comes from them, never out of the base or OTE the role offers you.

Ask before you sign

Ask how much of the pay is commission and whether it is paid on new policies only or on renewals too, who pays for licensing, and whether leads are provided or you find your own. A seat that is commission only, or asks you to buy leads, is a different job from one with a base.

Posted pay for each kind of seat

Each row's band comes from that kind's own open postings in this market, by the method behind every band on the board (from the 25th percentile of the midpoints of posted ranges (each counted as yearly pay, a rate per hour at 2,080 hours) to the 90th percentile of their top ends); a row needs three distinct posted ranges before it gets one. Every figure is yearly pay in US dollars; where a posting quotes a rate per hour, week or month, it is multiplied by 2,080, 52 or 12 to make a full-time year (40 hours over 52 weeks).

Requirements named in the postings

Tallied from the requirement lines of 111 out of 670 open insurance sales roles, the lines a role's pop-up quotes from the posting itself. A seat is counted once, under the lowest degree it accepts.

Companies are listed by what an application there is worth to you, and one that pays us a fee for hires sent from here gets a lift in that order; the fee never touches the base or OTE a company offers.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a insurance sales seat pay?

The open insurance sales roles carry 299 separate posted pay ranges. The middle of that market is $44.6k–$204k/yr and its median $77.5k/yr, each figure the range a posting states, base or OTE as it labels it. The richest posting tops out at $400k/yr, at Ethos. 306 of the 670 leave pay out, which usually means the number comes up at the recruiter screen.

Do you need a license to sell insurance?

In the United States, yes, to sell policies: each state licenses insurance producers by line of insurance (property and casualty, life and health) after a pre-licensing course and an exam. Many postings say whether the employer hires before the license and pays for the course; read that line before applying. How many of today's open roles ask for a license is counted on this page. Counting the requirement lines of 111 open insurance sales roles, 1 a master's or an MBA, 42 a bachelor's or some degree and 68 mention no degree at all.

What does an insurance sales job involve?

Two different jobs share the name. Carriers and agencies that sell to people (auto, home, life and pet insurance) hire reps who quote and sell policies by phone or in an agency, usually on a base plus commission. Brokers and carriers that sell to businesses (commercial property and casualty, employee benefits, credit insurance) hire producers and account managers who win and renew accounts with business owners and benefits leaders. On 1 November 2026 the companies with the most open sales roles here were Allstate, Coface, Fetch Pet Insurance, Foundation Risk Partners, Cottingham and Butler, Travelers and The Cigna Group.

Are these openings real?

Each one is read from the employer's own careers system (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday and the like), and Apply takes you to that company's application. ClaimSorted, Elevance Health, Harper and Ethos are among the employers on this page. A real employer never charges you for training, a starter kit or a background check; the scam checker lists the other warning signs of a fake offer.
