Typical posted pay is from the 25th percentile of the midpoints of posted ranges (each counted as yearly pay, a rate per hour at 2,080 hours) to the 90th percentile of their top ends; a kind needs three distinct posted ranges to get one. Every figure is yearly pay in US dollars; where a posting quotes a rate per hour, week or month, it is multiplied by 2,080, 52 or 12 to make a full-time year (40 hours over 52 weeks).

Ask before you sign
- You never pay to be hired. Training, a starter kit, a license course or a list of leads you must buy is the mark of a commission-only or recruitment scheme, not a sales job.
- Know how the variable is earned. On a first seat it can pay on meetings held, on pipeline created or on revenue closed; ask which, whether it is capped and what share of the team hit it last quarter.
- The next rung pays more. These seats post a median of $75.2k/yr against $169k/yr for account executive seats. Ask how long the path to a closing seat usually takes there, and what it takes to get promoted.
- Read past the title. These seats say they are first seats; the posting can still ask for a degree, a year in a customer-facing job or a language. Read it before you apply.
